An exclusive Behind-the-scenes visit to one of the world's leading small satellite companies has been arranged for Members of Friends of Imperial College and their guests.
Surrey Satellite Technology delivers operational space missions for a range of applications including Earth observation, science, communications, navigation, in-orbit servicing and beyond Earth infrastructure.
We are very excited to have this exclusive opportunity to see at first-hand the facilities of a world leading UK-based organisation engaged in satellite production and operation.
SSTL was formed in the late 1970s by a team at the University of Surrey, with first satellite, UoSat-1, launched in 1981 with the help of NASA and the mission was a great success.  The team showed that relatively small and inexpensive satellites could be built rapidly to perform successful and sophisticated missions.

In 1985 Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd was formed as a spin-out company to transfer the results of research into a commercial enterprise. SSTL now has over 30 years operational experience with more than 50 satellites launched, and an end-to-end capability to design, build test, launch and operate.
Friends will visit the THE KEPLER BUILDING, to see at first hand the suite of clean rooms, test facilities and laboratories in SSTL's technical facility, at the Surrey Research Park, Guildford. For further information see this link.
The draft event timetable is as follows:
12:45 arrival at SSTL and registration (attendees to make their own way there)

13:00 a briefing by Rob Goddard, Engineering Director, covering the history of SSTL and space missions

14:00 a tour of the facilities and opportunity to ask questions

16:00 departure

SSTL operates a secure facility and as such names and nationality of visitors need to be notified well in advance. This information will be asked for at time of booking.
This event is only open to Members of Friends of Imperial College and their Guests. If you would like to join as a Member please click here

We're sorry but the Behind-the-scenes visit to Surrey Satellite Technology is now full.

Please let our Administrator, Angie Watson ([email protected]) know if you would like to be put on the waiting list in case there are any cancellations. Also, if we are able to organise another visit in the future, we can let you know in advance.
