Imperial Festival

Saturday 10th May 2014 @ 12:00

Come and join in the fun with Dr Simon Foster and his team for Friends' Annual Festival Quantum Physics Showcase; the opening event for the public on Saturday 10 May

Installations, experiments, interactions, explanations, dancing, music and a little feasting. Bring the family - they'll love it .

Make a date with discovery at the 2014 Imperial Festival

Materials, microbes, maths and medicine. Explore Imperial's ground breaking research with a packed schedule of activities, talks and performances for all ages.

This year's Festival will take place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 May 2014. The Festival will be open to the public at the following times:
16.00 - 22.00 on Friday
12.00 - 18.00 on Saturday

The Festival is free and open to all, so drop in to put your questions to hundreds of scientists and engineers, take part in hands-on science demonstrations, peek behind the scenes of Imperial’s most exciting labs, and enjoy music, dance and comedy.

Friends are playing an even bigger part this year.

Our main event is the Friends Annual Festival Showcase:

The Quantum Showcase: for the love of science - midday, Great Hall, Sherfield Building sponsored by Friends of Imperial College

This will open the Festival's programme of public events on Saturday 10 May.

Grab your seat for this physics spectacular as students demonstrate mysteries of the quantum world where anything can happen and often does. Each act demonstrates why they love science.

Come and join in the fun with Dr Simon Foster and his team from the Controlled Quantum Dynamics Group.  Integrated into the Festival timetable, this annual foray will be presented by a team of performers chosen from the last three years.

Also on Saturday 10 May, from midday until 18.00, we have our Friends of Imperial College stand just outside the Great Hall, giving us an opportunity to meet many Friends – and some new ones.

Come and say hello and get a sneak preview of some events being planned in the Friends 2014-15 Programme.

And in the rest of the Festival...

There will be even more activities, performances and demonstrations, and three new venues:

Light Zone: From optical illusions to an invisibility cloak, explore the science of light, polarization and thermal cameras in an all new pop-up marquee.
Robot Zone: Explore the latest Imperial robotics research and meet a selection of Imperial’s robot residents, from dancing humanoids to flying mechanical locusts.
Workshop Tent: Enjoy interactive talks and activities on topics ranging from cocktail chemistry to stem cell therapy.
