The Institute opened at Imperial College in February 2007 thanks to a multimillion pound grant from the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment.

The Institute opened at Imperial College in February 2007 thanks to a multimillion pound grant from the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment. The multidisciplinary strategy of the Institute will build upon Imperial's already extensive expertise in climate change research in order to develop mitigating technologies and impact on public and private policy. It is in this way that we will strive towards a more secure global future. The Institute will focus its multidisciplinary efforts around the following research themes:

  • Earth Systems Science
  • Vulnerable Ecosystems and Human Welfare
  • Sustainable Futures
