Given the coronavirus situation, we had to postpone our remaining live events for the 2019/20 academic year. These will be rescheduled into our 2020/21 programme starting in the Autumn.

Meanwhile, to continue with our passion for sharing knowledge, we have launched Friday with Friends, our very own mini-series running over the summer!

We are hosting a selection of mini-lectures - new live 'fireside chats' - and releasing recordings from our most popular lectures in the archives.

Every fortnight on a Friday (of course!) Friday with Friends will host a live fireside chat with Imperial experts. Each event will feature a talk and Q & A session with the audience. Plus free virtual backgrounds of fireplaces!!

The inaugural chat took place at the start of July with Professor Martin Siegert, Co-director of the Grantham Institute at Imperial College London. It was an exclusive launch event for Members. You can see the video of this fireside chat ‘What ancient climates tell us about our future on Earth’ here on our YouTube channel.

Our next flaming fireside chat on Friday 17 July is Microchip Technology enabling Rapid Diagnostics and Surveillance of COVID-19. Click through to the event page here for full details and book your FREE (fireside) place/s now.

To keep updated with future chats, make sure you are registered with us to hear about them first!

Friday with Friends sees a new recording released every Friday of our most popular Friends public lectures held at Imperial College London. There is already a collection building up for you to view on the Friends YouTube channel. Topics range from:

  • astrophysics to climate change
  • electric aircraft engineering to quantum mechanics
  • space exploration to stem cell research
  • fusion energy to the science of fire
  • AI to black holes

View our YouTube channel here

You can subscribe to the channel for free by clicking the red ‘subscribe’ button on the YouTube page, you can then get sent notice of when another lecture has been added.

Below are two of our recent releases, click on each box to view these fascinating lectures.

Fusion Future: The Sun's Power on Earth was our inaugural live streamed lecture in June 2020.

Whether you missed them at the time, or want a reminder of the topic, take a look at the discoveries and developments that were happening then from the very people that were making them!

We also thought it might be worth highlighting one of our past lectures most relevant to the current issue for you to view:

Support our 2020/21 Programme Appeal here

We are highly reliant on ticket sales to fund the running of Friends, therefore we have been severely impacted by the current loss of live-event income. In order to plan and run our 2020/21 programme we are seeking donations of support.

Click here for the information on our Friends of Imperial College 2020/21 programme appeal, and find out how you can help.

Together we can continue to provide inspiration through education!
