Aurora: In Search of the Northern Lights

Aurora event

Fireside Chat exclusively for Members and their guests

What are the northern lights?  And do we really understand them?

Dr Melanie Windridge, plasma physicist, speaker, writer… with a taste for adventure.

She has a PhD in fusion energy from Imperial College London, is Communications Consultant for fusion start-up Tokamak Energy, has worked in education with the Ogden Trust, Anturus and the Your Life campaign, and is a STEM Ambassador.

She is the author of Aurora: In Search of the Northern Lights and Star Chambers, an introductory book on fusion energy.

Dr Melanie Windridge investigates, interweaving the science with a background of history, folklore and changing landscape to bring together space, place and science in style.  She reminds us that the aurora is more than just a spectacular light show, and that it’s the stories across the ages that bring it to life.

Exclusively for Members of Friends and their guests, Fireside Chats are part of the annual Membership benefits. These live streamed events are held on the occasional Friday afternoon @ 4pm, featuring more of a short presentation or talk, an informal chat and Q&A with the audience.
