Advanced AI-aided Manufacturing – Dr A Panesar : Annual Azad Ayub Lecture
Event Location:
Sir Alexander Fleming Building South Kensington Campus, Imperial College London, London SW7 2BX
FREE public in-person lecture
For our annual Azad Ayub Lecture* we will hear from Ajit Panesar, a leading researcher and engineer working in advanced manufacturing and exploring how AI-enabled techniques can optimise this vital sector of industry.
Ajit Panesar - Associate Professor (Reader) in Computational Design for Advanced Manufacturing at Imperial and founder of the IDEA Lab.
Ajit is an Associate Professor (Reader) in Computational Design for Advanced Manufacturing at Imperial College London, with a leading track record in additive manufacturing, topology optimisation and ML (incl. Scientific ML) and architected materials. He has authored the “Simulation-Driven Design” chapter for the ASM Handbook bridging the gap between research and practice, and contributed to over 60 publications, with several making it to the most downloaded/cited list. He co-leads the “Theory, Modelling and AI” SIG within the EPSRC UK Metamaterials Network, and led the “Computational Tools” theme in the EPSRC DfAM network. Ajit is actively engaged in multiple collaborations aimed at advancing the state of the art and delivering tangible impact across a wide range of sectors.
He has successfully secured research funding from both research councils and industry partners to deliver on his research vision. Importantly, he is extremely grateful for all the support he receives – from the members of IDEA lab, his colleagues/collaborators, mentors, funders and the wider community!
*The Azad Ayub Lecture
Azad Ayub has been a sustaining benefactor of Friends of Imperial College as well as an active Member and Trustee for many years. In order to honour his vital support and generosity, Friends launched the annual Azad Ayub Lecture in December 2025. Azad is himself an engineering alumnus at Imperial, so it is fitting for research in the engineering faculty to feature on the inaugural event.
To reflect Azad’s gift in communicating the engineering research and STEM education at Imperial College, this lecture is FREE to all. A gift to you from Azad and Friends!
You can book places below. We do not issue tickets, the email sent to you upon booking will act as your confirmation. The location for this lecture is in the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, South Kensington Campus, Imperial College London, SW7 2BX.
